About EdFund Foundation

EdFund Uganda Foundation was formed to: promote educational and vocational opportunities; renovate and construct school facilities to be sanitary and suitable for safe learning; provide professional development for teachers and administrators; increase environmental awareness; and promote gender equality – in Kamuli, Uganda, a district of 550,000 people located 90 miles northeast of Kampala, the national capital of Uganda. The future of Uganda is inextricably linked to improving family health, sanitation and education in rural areas. The Soga people of Kamuli are intelligent, ambitious and possess an ingenious ability to survive with minimal resources. They are determined to fulfill the promise that education is the best long-term strategy to combat poverty and disease and to secure the future of their country. As a group of men and women rising at dawn and walking home at dusk in the daily struggle to feed and educate their children, they still find time to sing, play and cherish the few opportunities they have. Uganda lacks the capacity to fund school construction, educational resources and teacher development to fulfill its citizens thirst for knowledge and education. EdFund Uganda Foundation has teamed with the local Kamuli NGO, Kapida Area Peoples Integral Development Association (KAPIDA), to assure that all donations will be directly invested into the local community.

Over the past 12 years, EdFund Uganda Foundation has funded and KAPIDA has managed the re-building and new construction of 8 school buildings including: a dining hall and commercial energy-efficient kitchen for feeding 2,000 students daily, 3 classroom buildings, an administration building, a community center for the school and town (population of 100,000), a girls’ dormitory for 100 students, a boys dormitory for 100 students, and new sanitary facilities for all the buildings. As EdFund Uganda Foundation evolves into the 21st century, its mission has expanded into the world of technology with a focus on bringing computer education, internet, and technology resources to students, teachers, administrators, and community members in Eastern Uganda. To that end, EdFund Foundation has completed a Technology Center at the Kamuli Township Primary School with 42 independent new computers all linked together with access to internet, projection, and sound to provide an integrated system for use by single individuals up to full classrooms of 42 students and teachers and community members. The intent is to educate and train students, teachers, and community members in the interconnectivity of the new world. With future funding, EdFund hopes to establish additional technology centers in the Kamuli District and Eastern Uganda.
