EdFund Uganda Foundation

EdFund Uganda Foundation, Inc. is a US-based 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit dedicated to rebuilding schools and bringing computer technology with internet access to those primary schools in Eastern Uganda. Our mission is to advance the social, personal and economic development of children and youth in Uganda through greater access to education, technology and other life changing resources.
Our vision is simple: Help Uganda’s children today become Uganda’s leaders tomorrow.

Why Uganda?
Despite recent economic progress, Uganda remains one of the poorest nations in the world, with the World Bank reporting that 42% of the population lives on just $2.15 per day.

The formal education system was started by English missionaries in 1895 when the first school was established. Many of the current schools were built by the Indian population in the 1950s. But with the banishment of the Indian population during the Idi Amin administration, schools were closed and formal education was severely disrupted. After the fall of the Amin administration, Uganda struggled with reestablishing a formal education system. To compound matters, a booming population combined with a lack of government funding has left old schools decaying and no resources to build new ones.

EdFund Uganda Foundation’s mission is to restore the historical education infrastructure and bring new technology into the classroom. Many Schools built in the 1950s fell into total disrepair or closed following the political instability of the Idi Amin era. Because there has been a lack of government funding to renovate these structures, EdFund’s school rebuilding work directly fills a critical infrastructural void.  By targeting large institutions like the Kamuli Township Primary School, which serves a massive student population of 2,500 children, EdFund’s structural and educational interventions achieve immediate, large-scale success.

Our Impact: From Brick-and-Mortar to Bytes
We began our school rebuilding work in 2012 in the Kamuli District north of Lake Victoria. In 2023, we expanded our mission to bridge the digital divide.

June 1, 2026 Milestone: We officially opened our new full-scale Technology and Library Center at Township Primary School, serving 2,500 students and a community of 50,000.
• The Hub: The facility features 42 interconnected computers, a teaching lab, projectors, sound systems and internet access. This advanced learning environment gives students, teachers, administrators and residents of the community access to modern educational resources that are otherwise entirely unavailable in impoverished areas of Uganda

• Teacher and Administrator Advancement: The best part is that the impact isn’t just on children. By training educators and school leaders in technology, they elevate the overall quality and management of local formal education.

• Community Empowerment: The facility operates 6 days a week as a vibrant Community Center for the entire municipality. By offering digital literacy classes tailored for both formal education and entrepreneurship, it equips youth and community members with the modern business skills needed to generate income.
